Hello,
I am Abbey Rettinger-Goraczkowski. I have lived in Fairbanks, Alaska since August 2024. My husband is Active Duty Air Force and previously I have lived in Montana, Arizona, Hawaii, and Colorado. I received my Masters in Social Work from Western New Mexico University in May 2023 while living in Montana. I specialized in Social Work with Military members and Families. I have my Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and also got minors in Philosophy and Military Science.
I have experience working extensively with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I have done specialized training in working with First Responders. I am currently trained in Brainspotting which is a new treatment that has shown great results with those who have experienced trauma. I have worked with intensive outpatient programs for addictions, and within the veteran court treatment program. While living in Arizona, I gained experience working in crisis situations and inpatient individuals and working with homeless Veterans through a VA grant funded program. I have worked children, adults, and the elderly while also enjoying working with couples. I have treated individuals both in person, and virtually.
I love to work by empowering individuals to take charge of their own care and validate their emotions and experiences. Everybody has a story, and I love to hear them.
I value the human experience, and use the ideas of Internal Family Systems a lot in my practice. I am an advocate of mindfulness practice and love to treat the whole person instead of the symptom. I utilize play therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, brainspotting, internal family systems, motivational interviewing, and many other modalities in my practice.
Outside of work I love to explore my new home of Alaska. I have 3 dogs that love to get out into nature and we go camping, fishing, exploring and most recently ice fishing. I have always loved being in nature and around animals. I enjoy reading, watching television, and the occasional video game.
I look forward to meeting you and getting to help you on your mental health journey.
